Florida Fund for Minority Teachers:
The Minority Teacher Education Scholars Program is a collaborative performance-based scholarship program for African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaskan Native students. The participants in the program are students that attend Florida’s public and private colleges and universities that have state-approved teacher education programs. The Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES) program was created to be Florida’s Answer to Diversity in Teaching. For over 20 years, the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers, Inc. has answered the call and continues to provide the great state of Florida with high quality, highly qualified minority teachers. STEM Scholarships:
The FSU-Teach program has funding from an anonymous donor for scholarships for $1000 a semester for up to two semesters for students who have completed Step 1 and Step 2 and are continuing in the program (are applying to the School of Teacher Education). The scholarships are primarily need-based, but academic record is also considered. Applications are due within the first two weeks each semester. Click here for an application: FSU-Teach Scholarship Application. Requirements include a 2.5 GPA, copies of all transcripts, and two reference forms. Master teachers, faculty, and employers are eligible as recommenders.
The Community for Accredited Online Schools Scholarships:
The Community for Accredited Online Schools is a comprehensive accreditation resource that provides prospective students and families with the tools needed to make well-informed decisions about their education. Apprentice Teaching Scholarships:
The FSU-Teach program has funding from an anonymous donor for scholarships for $2000 available to students in their Apprentice Teaching semester to help with expenses associated with Apprentice Teacher (e.g., gas, clothes for teaching). College of Education Scholarships & Aid:
The FSU College of Education offers over $400,000 in scholarship and fellowship opportunities - more than any other public College of Education in Florida. Eligibility requirements vary. To find out what types of aid are offered, click here.
Federal Financial Aid:
Federal financial aid for students majoring in many of the sciences and mathematics. For more info click here.
TEACH Grants:
The TEACH Grant (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education) is a Federal student grant program created to assist in the development and recruitment of teachers for high need programs in public or private elementary or secondary schools that serve low income families. Receive up to $4000 annually for full-time enrollment. For more info click here.
Peer Mentorships:
Peer mentors serve as resources for students who are in the beginning stages of the FSU-Teach program. Peer mentors have completed Step 1 and Step 2 and have had successful experiences in the program; they can give advice on coursework, lesson planning, FTCE, Research Methods, etc. They are also experts in the classroom field experiences they’ve had in FSU-Teach courses. Requirements to be a peer mentor include:
- a GPA of 2.5 or above
- completion of SMT 3100, Knowing & Learning
- current enrollment in an FSU-Teach course
- a plan for remaining coursework in the program
- reliable and punctual attendance
- attendance at monthly WeTEACH meetings
