Admissions

Students apply for provisional admission to the FSU-Teach Program after successfully completing the first two pedagogy courses. Provisional admission into FSU-Teach, sometime during the first 60 hours of the program, will enable FSU-Teach advisors and faculty to review candidates’ progress through the program and offer guidance in terms of needed courses.

Requirements for Provisional Admissions to the SSMT (FSU-Teach) Secondary Major

For candidates entering as Freshmen and Sophomores:

  • Successful completion of Step 1 and Step 2.
  • Enrollment in Knowing and Learning.
  • Successful completion of the first 30 hours of coursework.
  • Evidence of successful clearance of fingerprinting/background check for public schools.
  • Adequate progress toward a mathematics or science primary major as evaluated by an SSMT advisor.

For candidates entering as Juniors or Seniors (over 52-60 hours):

  • Enrollment in Step 1.
  • Completion of a minimum of 52 hours including all prerequisite coursework in primary major.
  • Evidence of successful clearance of fingerprinting/background check for public schools.
  • Adequate progress toward a mathematics or science primary major.
  • Certification from Basic Division (to Arts & Sciences).

Formal admission to the FSU-Teach program will coincide with admission to the University’s Professional Education Unit once the general education courses are complete. Admission to the Program means you will be earning two majors – one in a math or science area and one in secondary teaching. You must meet the criteria for both arms of the Program to be admitted.

Requirements for Admission to the University Professional Education Unit

  • Completion of the general education curriculum and program prerequisites (which may be accomplished through FSU credit, a Florida public institution AA degree, or a combination of transfer work and FSU credit).
  • A passing score on the General Knowledge portion of the FTCE (Florida Teacher Certification Exam).
  • 2.5 GPA
  • Successful completion of Step 1 and Step 2 courses (for FSU-Teach candidates).
  • Evidence of successful clearance of fingerprinting/background check for public schools.
